Crocosmia hybride

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Garden Crocosmia sold as 'hybrid' mostly derive from Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora, a cross between C. aurea and C. pottsii raised in France by Victor Lemoine in 1880 from two South African species. This cormous geophyte forms clumps of sword-shaped leaves and, in summer, arching branched spikes of funnel-shaped flowers ranging from yellow to orange and red. Vigorous, it spreads by stolons that produce new corms. Easy to grow in full sun or part shade and moist, well-drained soil, it can become invasive.
