Crocosmia jackanab

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
'Jackanab' most likely refers to the cultivar Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora 'Jackanapes', an old, dwarf selection within the group. This cormous geophyte forms a compact clump of sword-shaped leaves no more than 1 m tall. In summer it bears spikes of distinctly bicolour flowers: the tepals are bright red at the base and bright yellow at the tip, giving a striking parti-coloured effect. Vigorous and easy, it suits the front of a border. Grow in full sun and soil that is well drained yet moist in the growing season; it spreads readily by stolons.
