Crocus cambessedesii

Endemic to the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Minorca), Crocus cambessedesii grows on coastal rocks and cliffs, from sea level up to about 300 m. This small crocus produces a corm from which arise thread-like leaves marked with a white midrib, appearing with or after the flowers. In autumn (October to December), it bears small, solitary flowers, white to lilac, with violet stripes on the outside of the tepals. A diminutive species suited to rocky habitats, it requires full sun and very sharply drained soil, with a dry summer rest.
