Crocus danfordiae

Native to central and southern Turkey, Crocus danfordiae is a small bulbous plant growing from a corm, with very narrow leaves barely over a millimetre wide, marked by a fine white stripe. Its flowers, among the smallest in the genus, appear in spring and show remarkable colour variation, ranging from yellow to white to blue, even within a single population. The anthers are distinguished by small black lobes at their base. It thrives in well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer rest, and is well suited to rock gardens or pot cultivation.
