Crocus korolkowii

Native to Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, northern Afghanistan and Pakistan), Crocus korolkowii grows on stony, grassy slopes from 600 to 2600 m altitude. Its near-spherical corm produces 5-15 narrow leaves with a white central stripe, appearing together with the flowers. From February to May depending on altitude, it bears fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers, bright yellow-orange inside and glossy purple outside. Hardy to cold, it requires well-drained soil and a completely dry summer rest, making it a good choice for rock gardens or cold pots/frames.
