Crocus moabiticus

Endemic to the Moab Mountains of northwestern Jordan, Crocus moabiticus is a cormous Iridaceae growing in shrubby steppe and cultivated or fallow fields. Rare and threatened by habitat loss, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful crocuses. It flowers from late autumn into early winter, producing white flowers heavily veined with purple-violet, 20-25 mm long, with yellow, often inward-curving anthers and a style divided into three scarlet-red lobes as long as the perianth segments. The narrow leaves bear a white median stripe. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer dormancy.
