Crocus paschei

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Native to the Taurus Mountains of southern Turkey, where it was discovered in 1994 at a locality that remained secret for many years, Crocus paschei is a rare species protected in the wild. This cormous bulbous plant, around 10 cm tall, forms dense, compact clumps. In spring it produces large silvery violet-blue flowers with a golden throat, yellow anthers and a conspicuous red-orange style, the blooms crowding tightly together into a solid mass. It thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, whether grown in pots or in open ground.
