Native to Turkey, found on both shores of the Bosphorus, Crocus pestalozzae is a small bulbous plant growing from a corm, found in fields and on hillsides below 200 metres in elevation. From January to March it produces small white flowers with a yellow throat, the blunt segments measuring 1.5 to 2.5 cm, with a purple-flowered form also known. A rare and threatened species in the wild, it is cultivated in full sun and well-drained soil, in rockeries or pots, with a dry summer rest after flowering.
