Crocus robertianus

Native to north-western and central Greece, particularly the high altitudes of the Pindus range, Crocus robertianus is a bulbous plant growing from a corm, closely related to the spring-flowering Crocus sieberi despite blooming in autumn. In early November it produces strong, rounded, deep-purple flowers with a contrasting yellow throat. Notably tough, it withstands both summer dampness and winter cold, making it one of the easiest autumn-flowering species to grow. It thrives in rich, well-drained soil, in a position from full sun to light shade, and dies back after flowering.
