Crocus sieberi

Native to the mountains of Greece, Crete, and the Balkans, where it grows on rocky slopes and short turf above 1000 m, Crocus sieberi is a clump-forming corm species, each corm producing several narrow, grass-like leaves and multiple flower stems. Reaching 7 to 10 cm in height, it flowers early, from February to March, with cup-shaped blooms ranging from pure white to deep violet, often striped violet on the outside and marked with a bright yellow throat. Hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, and naturalises readily in grass.
