Curcuma alismatifolia

Native to Thailand and mainland Southeast Asia, Curcuma alismatifolia, or Siam tulip, is a clump-forming rhizomatous plant reaching 60 cm to 1.5 m. Its green, lance-shaped foliage accompanies, from late spring to autumn, a striking 20-25 cm spike-like inflorescence: green lower bracts contrast with upper bracts in shades of pink, magenta or violet, between which tiny true flowers appear. It prefers part shade, rich well-drained soil, regular watering in growth, and a dry, frost-free winter dormancy (hardy only to zone 9-11).
