Cyanella is a genus in the family Tecophilaeaceae comprising a handful of cormous species endemic to South Africa, mainly the Cape region. Their star-shaped flowers, blue, mauve or yellow depending on the species, are distinguished by stamens of unequal length, some curved, a hallmark of the genus. These are winter-growing geophytes that rest during the dry Cape summer. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil kept dry during summer dormancy; protect from frost in cold regions.
