Cyclamen creticum

Endemic to Crete and Karpathos, Cyclamen creticum grows in rocky places, along stream banks, in shaded gullies and under bushes, from sea level up to 1300 m, in the island's typical Mediterranean climate. Its tuber produces heart-shaped leaves, often coarsely toothed, dark green with a purple reverse, marked with cloudy or netted silvery patterns. From February to May, solitary flowers open, white or, more rarely, pale pinkish-white. The species reaches about 15 cm in height. Grow in light shade, well-drained limestone soil, with a dry, warm summer rest.
