Cyclamen trochopteranthum

Native to southwestern Turkey, Cyclamen trochopteranthum grows in rocky areas, deciduous woodland and scrub between 350 and 1500 m elevation. Its flattened tuber reaches 5 cm across and bears rounded to heart-shaped leaves marked with silvery grey-green. In spring, appearing together with the leaves, it produces sweetly spice-scented flowers ranging from pale pink to carmine-purple, each with a deep purple-magenta blotch at the base; the twisted petals resemble a ship's propeller, giving the species its name. Reasonably hardy, it dislikes wide fluctuations in moisture or temperature and needs sharp drainage.
