Cymbidium canaliculatum

Native to Australia (the Kimberley, Northern Territory, Queensland and northern New South Wales), Cymbidium canaliculatum is one of only three species of the genus endemic to the Australian continent. An epiphytic or lithophytic orchid forming dense clumps, it bears greyish-green pseudobulbs and rigid, fleshy, deeply channelled leaves adapted to drought. It flowers in autumn, producing numerous small, fragrant flowers about 4 cm across, extremely variable in colour from green to almost black. Grown in a hanging basket or mounted, in a very free-draining medium, in bright light, with reduced watering in winter corresponding to its natural rest period.
