Cymbidium insigna

This entry most likely refers to Cymbidium insigne, described by Rolfe in 1904, native to the highlands of Thailand, Vietnam and Hainan. A terrestrial orchid with large, slightly flattened pseudobulbs, it grows in cloud forest, lightly shaded by low bushes, between 1000 and 2600 m elevation. It flowers from autumn through spring, bearing on a tall, erect spike numerous large flowers in white to pastel pink, much valued by hybridizers for their elegant carriage. It is grown under cool to cold, bright conditions, with generous watering while growing and a more measured regime at rest.
