Oncocyclus dardanus

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Iris 'Dardanus' is a so-called "regeliocyclus" hybrid, resulting from crosses between the Regelia and Oncocyclus sections, raised in the early 20th century by the Van Tubergen nurseries. It is notable for its large, pale mauve-purple standards and falls, finely veined with dark purple, borne in spring on a short stem. It is an aril hybrid considered relatively easy to grow compared with the pure species. It needs very free-draining soil, full sun, and a completely dry summer rest.
