Dianella

Dianella is a genus of about forty species, known as flax lilies, found across Africa, South East Asia, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia. They are tufted, rhizomatous perennials with fibrous or fleshy roots and linear, overlapping leaf bases arranged in a fan. Flowering stems carry panicles of small blue, purple or white flowers with prominent bright yellow stamens, followed by decorative, glossy steel-blue berries. Depending on the species, the evergreen foliage forms clumps 30 to 90 cm tall. Grow in well-drained, humus-rich soil, in part shade to light sun.
