Diplarremia latifolia

Endemic to Tasmania, Australia, where it grows in wet heaths and subalpine rushlands, Diplarrena latifolia (western flag iris) is a rhizomatous perennial in the family Iridaceae. It forms thick clumps of long, narrow leaves up to 2 cm wide, from which slender stems rise to about 90 cm. From late spring to early summer it bears white, faintly scented flowers marked with yellow and purple at the base of the petals, notable for having only two fertile stamens instead of the usual three. It requires humus-rich, moist but well-drained, neutral to acid soil, in full sun for best flowering.
