Dracunculus vulgaris — Arum puant, Dragon arum

This mediterranean aroid makes an impressive gardenplant: a thick "stem" with leopard markings up to 70cm high is topped with deeply divided leaves. The large flowering spathe 45cm long with ruffled edges is velvet brown inside and olive green outside. A rather unpleasant scent attracts the pollinating flies. During the summer only the spike with red berries remains visible.
