Erica diaphana ?? SH

Endemic to the Eastern and Western Cape (South Africa), from Bontebok National Park to George and Uitenhage, Erica diaphana grows on rocky slopes and flats of the fynbos. This erect shrub, with stiff branches and fine needle-like leaves, reaches nearly 1.8 m. In late summer (December to March) it bears, in threes, pendulous tubular flowers, pink to purplish, semi-translucent and glossy, with whitish tips — hence the name 'diaphana'. It requires full sun and acidic, sandy, well-drained soil typical of the fynbos.
