Eucomis

Eucomis, a genus of bulbous plants from southern Africa in the family Asparagaceae, includes true giants such as Eucomis pallidiflora, whose flowering stem can exceed 1.5 to 2 m. All species share the same distinctive floral architecture: a dense spike of star-shaped flowers topped with a crown of leafy bracts. Grow in rich, moist, well-drained soil, in full sun; a dry winter rest is advisable, with mulching in cold climates.
