EUCOMIS GENERAL

The genus
The Eucomis species are found in their natural habitats, in eastern South Africa, in clumps on grassy streambanks and in forest margins at higher altitudes (2800m). Attractive leaves with at the end of the summer rather unusual flowers with a typical 'tassel' on top (a terminal bud) which explains the name "Pineapple lily". The leaves disappear at the end of november, and the soil should remain rather dry to conserve the dormant bulbs until the spring.
