Eulophia streptopetala

Ranging from Eritrea to South Africa, and also found in Yemen, Eulophia streptopetala is a terrestrial orchid growing at forest margins, in scrub and grassland from the coast up to 2550 m. Its ovoid, partly emergent pseudobulbs carry 4 to 7 elongated, pleated leaves; the plant can reach 2.5 m tall. An erect stem up to 90 cm bears many flowers with yellow petals and brownish-green striped sepals, the lip streaked red-brown, in a long-blooming display over several months. It requires rich, well-drained soil in sun to part shade.
