Ferraria

Ferraria, a South African cormous genus in the family Iridaceae, comprises around thirty species with sword-shaped foliage and highly unusual, short-lived flowers. The petals, often frilled or finely wavy, display dark patterns and colours meant to attract specific pollinators, sometimes through an unpleasant scent. Several localised species, uncommon outside South Africa, remain rare in cultivation. Grow in well-drained sandy soil, in full sun; dry summer rest.
