Firecracke

'Firecracker' is the common name for Dichelostemma ida-maia, a bulbous plant native to northern California and southern Oregon. Its erect, leafless stems bear in spring an umbel of bright red, green-tipped tubular flowers resembling small firecrackers, hence the name. It grows naturally at forest edges and in coastal meadows, on well-drained soils. Grow in full sun with a dry summer rest; hardy in Mediterranean climates, but sensitive to excess winter moisture.
