Oxalis flava is a South African Cape species notable for its fleshy, cylindrical, often glaucous foliage, quite different from the genus's typical trifoliate leaves. Funnel-shaped flowers, carried in umbels, range from yellow to orange or red depending on the form. Flowering occurs in late winter and spring. This species thrives in full sun, on very well-drained, even stony soil, with a dry summer dormancy typical of geophytes from winter-rainfall Mediterranean climates.
