Chasmanthe floribunda (Iridaceae) is a South African (Cape) cormous plant, the most widely grown species of the genus. In winter it produces a fan of leaves and tall, arching stems up to 1 m, bearing dense, horn-shaped spikes of bright orange tubular flowers that attract nectar-feeding birds in its native habitat. Grow in full sun or part shade, in well-drained soil, watered in winter; hardy to around -5 to -8 °C with mulching.
