Fortunatia biflora

The name Fortunatia biflora is a now-obsolete synonym of Oziroe biflora, a bulbous plant in the Asparagaceae family (formerly classified in Hyacinthaceae), native to arid areas from central Chile to southern Peru, where it is locally known as "huilli". This small geophyte rarely exceeds 10-20 cm, its narrow foliage withering before the flowering stem appears, typically bearing two flowers as suggested by the epithet "biflora". Adapted to a dry climate, it becomes dormant in summer and grows best in full sun, in poor, sharply drained soil, sheltered from moisture outside the growing season.
