foxtail lily

'Foxtail lily' is the common name for Eremurus himalaicus, a species native to the Himalayan foothills, growing on rocky slopes up to 3,000 m altitude. Its rosette of strap-shaped leaves is followed in spring by a stem reaching up to 2 m, bearing a dense spike of small, star-shaped white flowers with yellow stamens, resembling a fox's tail. Grow in well-drained soil, in full sun; the tuberous roots are sensitive to waterlogging, especially in summer.
