The correct name for this species is Freesia andersoniae (Iridaceae). Endemic to South Africa, it stands out among the gullet-flowered freesias for its range, which extends beyond the winter-rainfall region into the Eastern Cape, Free State and North West, areas with more summer rainfall. The tunicated corm produces a fan of narrow, sword-shaped leaves and a slender stem bearing, in spring, a loose spike of fragrant, tubular flowers with a flared throat. It requires sun, well-drained soil, and dry dormancy after flowering.
