Freesia hybride

The genus Freesia, native to South Africa, comprises around fifteen wild cormous geophyte species, the source of numerous garden hybrids (Freesia x hybrida) widely grown for cut flowers. A slender, arching scape, 20-45 cm tall, rises from a fan of narrow sword-shaped leaves and bears a one-sided spike of 5 to 10 highly fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers in a wide range of colours (white, yellow, orange, red, pink, mauve). Flowering occurs in spring. These plants need full sun and well-drained soil.
