Fritilaria kotschyana

Native to northern and north-central Iran and to Azerbaijan, Fritillaria kotschyana is a small bulbous fritillary growing in rocky mountain areas. The short stem bears narrow, lance-shaped leaves and terminates in one or two solitary, bell-shaped, nodding flowers of variable colour, often yellowish-green to purplish-brown, chequered with darker tessellated markings. Flowering takes place in spring, the flower sometimes appearing almost at ground level. It requires a sunny position, well-drained stony soil, and completely dry summer dormancy.
