Fritilaria verticillata

Native to Asia (Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Xinjiang, Kazakhstan and the Siberian Altai), Fritillaria verticillata is a bulbous perennial reaching 60 to 90 cm tall. Its stem bears whorled leaves whose tips curl into tendrils that grip surrounding vegetation. From March to May it produces a loose spike of up to 15 nodding, bell-shaped white flowers, checkered with green or brown. The species prefers light to medium, well-drained soil, in full sun to light shade.
