The genus

This genus is generally found in the Mediterranean, West of Asia and California on stony hillsides with moisture retentive clays at higher altitudes. Bulbs have very little tunic and can dry out easily. Very light humidity during summer dormancy can be beneficial. Flowers are usually pendulous.
