Galanthus elwesii ‘albino

G. elwesii is the most likely species to persist in a mediterraean region. Its glaucous gray green foliage is broad, and the two leaves wrap around each other and the bloom stalk where they emerge from the ground. The large flowers have green markings on the outside of the three inner petals both at the base and at the tips. Sepals are ca 24 mm long; leaves are 20 mm wide. To be planted in wooded areas and left in place where it will seed and spread naturally.

The genus

The most common Snowdrop is Galanthus nivalis which is naturalised inthe maritime climate of Europe. Most other Galanthus species come from the eastern Mediterranean and southeast Asia. This genus rarely persists in the warmer mediterraean climat.
