Galaxia citrina

Now reclassified as Moraea citrina (formerly Galaxia citrina), this tiny Iridaceae from the northwestern Cape, South Africa, grows in shallow sandy or stony soil. Virtually stemless, it does not exceed 3 cm tall and forms a basal tuft of yellow flowers with filaments fused into a column - a characteristic trait of the former genus Galaxia. It flowers from winter to spring. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
