Gazania SH

The genus Gazania (here without a confirmed species, reference 'SH') comprises some fifteen species of Asteraceae from southern Africa, from the Cape to Tanzania and Angola, growing from coastal sands to high-altitude grassland. These are low perennials with prostrate stems and silvery, often lobed leaves, forming dense mats. The large solitary flowerheads, with bright yellow to orange ray florets, sometimes bicoloured at the base, open throughout summer and close at night. It requires full sun, well-drained soil even if poor, and is remarkably heat- and drought-tolerant.
