Geissorhiza heterostyla

Widespread across the Cape Province, South Africa, on stony clay slopes, Geissorhiza heterostyla is a 12-45 cm Iridaceae notable for its heterostyly: style length varies between plants, extending beyond, reaching, or falling short of the anthers. Two subspecies are recognised: the type, with a pubescent stem and nodding blue to violet flowers, and subspecies rosea, with a smooth stem and upright white, pale blue or pale mauve flowers. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
