Geissorhiza inflexa (red)

Geissorhiza inflexa is a cormous plant in the iris family (Iridaceae), endemic to the southwestern Cape province of South Africa, growing on flat and sloping clay soils. Reaching 15-35 cm tall, it has sword-shaped leaves with winged margins that are slightly hairy. It flowers in late winter to early spring, in spikes of 2-6 flowers; the form offered here, with red flowers, differs from the typical cream-white form. Like most Geissorhiza, it is grown in full sun, in soil kept moist and well-drained in winter, with a dry summer dormancy.
