Geissorhiza tulbaghensis

Restricted to the lower western slopes of the Olifants River, Witzenberg and Bain's Kloof mountains, from Piekenierskloof Pass to Wellington and Tulbagh, Western Cape, Geissorhiza tulbaghensis is one of the most striking Geissorhiza. This 5-15 cm geophyte, sticky-leaved at the base, produces large white flowers with a deep maroon-brown centre, in a wide open cup, in late winter and spring. Listed as Endangered due to agricultural and urban expansion, it requires well-drained soil and a sunny position in cultivation.
