Gelasina

The exact species of this Gelasine (spelled "Gelasina" on the label) could not be confirmed, so the description is given at genus level. Gelasine is a small cormous genus of Iridaceae endemic to South America (Argentina, Uruguay, southern Brazil), comprising a handful of species including the type, Gelasine azurea. Plants form tufts of narrow, pleated, grey-green leaves and bear, in late spring to early summer, star-shaped, short-lived blue or violet flowers with a white eye, opening in the morning like crocuses. They favour warm soil that stays cooler at depth, and a spot sheltered from harsh afternoon sun.
