Gladiolus antakyensis

Gladiolus antakiensis (sometimes spelled antakyensis) is a cormous Iridaceae described in 1983, closely related to Gladiolus italicus, native to the Antakya (Hatay) region of southern Turkey as well as neighbouring Lebanon and Syria. Growing 20–60 cm tall, it bears about four narrow, sword-shaped basal leaves, the longest reaching 25–35 cm. In spring it produces a loose spike of the funnel-shaped, pink to purple flowers typical of the genus. Considered threatened within its Turkish range, it grows in fields and field margins, and requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy.
