Gladiolus BB sp blanche

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Like the other unidentified accessions in this batch, this plant belongs to the genus Gladiolus (Iridaceae), which numbers around 260 species mostly native to South Africa. The globose corm, wrapped in fibrous tunics, produces narrow sword-shaped leaves and a stem bearing a one-sided spike of funnel-shaped, six-tepalled flowers. In this plant, labelled 'sp blanche' (white), the flowers observed in cultivation are white, distinguishing it from the other accessions in the batch whose colour was not recorded. The precise species remains to be determined. Grow in well-drained soil, full sun, with dry dormancy outside the growing season.
