Gladiolus bilineatus

A local endemic of the southern foothills of the Langeberg, South Africa, at the renosterveld-fynbos transition, Gladiolus bilineatus flowers in autumn, in March-April. It bears only three leaves, of which only the lower one or two develop a well-formed blade 6-8 mm wide. Closely related to Gladiolus engysiphon in flowering time and range, it is likewise pollinated by a long-proboscid fly. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
