Gladiolus bonaspei var aureum

Native to the southwestern Cape of South Africa, Gladiolus bonaspei - sometimes called Good Hope Ladies - grows on sandy flats and sandy slopes. This cormous Iridaceae produces a spike of 2 to 7 orange, more rarely yellow, flowers whose hue shifts slightly over the blooming period, from pure orange to orange tinged with yellow. Long spelled bonaespei, the name was corrected by Goldblatt and Manning; some authors now propose reclassifying it as Gladiolus merianellus. Like other Cape Gladiolus, it requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and a dry summer rest.
