Gladiolus italicus alba

Native to southern Europe and the western Mediterranean basin, Gladiolus italicus (field gladiolus) grows in grassland, waste ground and cornfields, where it can behave as a weed. The "alba" form is distinguished by its white flowers, borne in a loose spike of up to twenty blooms on an upright stem 60-90 cm tall, above narrow, dark green, sword-shaped leaves. Flowering occurs from late spring to early summer. The corm, planted in autumn, requires full sun and well-drained soil.
