Gladiolus recurvus

Occurring from Ceres to Bredasdorp in the southwestern Cape of South Africa, on shale-derived soils, Gladiolus recurvus flowers from June to October depending on elevation. This cormous Iridaceae, 25 to 35 cm tall, produces fragrant, pale grey to cream flowers, sometimes yellowish or pinkish, marked with purple lines and dots on the lower tepals and occasionally along the midline of the upper tepals. Like most winter-growing South African Gladiolus, it requires well-drained soil, a sunny position, autumn-winter growth, and a dry summer rest.
