Gladiolus ?sp? ‘ Mc Gregor’

The precise identity of this Gladiolus remains uncertain; the epithet "Mc Gregor" likely refers to the town of McGregor in the Western Cape, on the edge of the Robertson Karoo (South Africa), an area rich in narrowly endemic wild Gladiolus species. Like most South African Gladiolus from this semi-arid region, it is presumably a cormous geophyte with narrow, sword-shaped leaves, flowering in spring on a stem bearing a spike of funnel-shaped blooms. Cultivation, in full sun and free-draining soil, should include the dry summer dormancy typical of the Cape.
