Gladiolus ?sp? ‘vanRhijnpass’

This wild Gladiolus, whose species remains uncertain, comes from the Van Rhyns Pass area, in the Bokkeveld mountains near Nieuwoudtville (Northern Cape), a zone renowned for its spectacular spring floral displays after the winter rains. Like other Gladiolus from this region, it grows from a tunicated corm, with narrow sword-shaped leaves and a stem bearing a spike of funnel-shaped flowers appearing in the austral spring. Grow in full sun, well-drained soil, dry summer dormancy.
